This past weekend, Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane and his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, hosted the Chrysalis Awards in Los Angeles. Dane’s friends and co-stars came out to support the event. James Pickens, Katherine Heigl, Kate Walsh, and T.R. Knight were all on hand at the awards ceremony and dished on Grey’s finale and future.
T.R. Knight had a lot say about his character from the women he’s loved to whether or not he’d go gay for a member of Seattle Grace. “Oh, that’s not who he is,†Knight laughed. “That’s now how I’ve been playing him! That would be a different character!” He also dished on his season finale kiss with costar Chyler Leigh, though he was just as surprised by it as the viewers were. “What was up with that?” he wondered. He continued on about Leigh saying, “She’s really funny and it’s really fun to work with her. I like the dorky actor ‘craft’ part of it, where you discuss the scene and so does she. She’s a cool person.”
Knight struggled through fan backlash when show creator, Shonda Rhimes, paired his character George up with his best friend, Izzie. “It kind of died quickly, didn’t it? They had them fall in love really quickly and then tore them apart really quickly,†he observed. “It just seemed to be such a weird, fast event.” Fans can rest assured: Gizzie is dead for good.
One couple that reunited in the season finale was Richard and Adelle. Actor James Pickets Jr., for one, was happy about that. “We got him some action for a change,” he joked. “He got a chance to get some, so that’s all good!” Whether or not Loretta Devine will become a regular character next season will depend on the fate of her current show, Eli Stone.
There has been much speculation as to whether or not Katherine Heigl will return, since her focus has seemed to turn to movies. At this weekend’s event, she seemed to indicate to the press that her feet would stay firmly planted at Seattle Grace. “It’s a real blessing because I love both and so I can do them both and not be completely ready to blow my brains out,†she said.
Pickens also assured fans that Grey’s would return for season 5 with a full season – 26 episodes. Season 4 was cut short due to the Writers Guild of America strike and only aired 16 episodes.
