Just as I thought all the drama and rumors surrounding actors leaving the show, this little rumor pops up out of nowhere saying Patrick Dempsey wants to leave Grey’s Anatomy.

ABC recently released a synopsis for the next episode (airing in March) “I Will Follow You Into the Dark”, where it is revealed that Dempsey’s character Derek comes to a decision that he wants to “quit”. People have taken this to mean that he wants to quit the show, but that’s not the case.

E! Online quotes an insider, “[Derek] may be ‘quitting’ but [he is] definitely not leaving the show. [Dempsey] doesn’t want to leave, and they wouldn’t let him go anyway.”

He may not be getting much sleep, but Patrick Dempsey is having fun with fatherhood and filming Season 4 of Grey’s Anatomy.

The actor tells Extra that his 6-month-old twin sons “are developing beautifully … It’s a lot of fun.”

It’s a sentiment he echoes when asked about filming the latest installment of his hit TV show: “It’s a lot lighter, people are having more fun.”

“The energy and the adjustments make a big difference,” he says, referring to the departure of Isaiah Washington after an on-set altercation between the stars last season.

Definitely pumped to be back at Seattle Grace, he declares, “I’m going to go save some lives again!”

He might be at the height of his professional powers as a star of Grey’s Anatomy, but Patrick Dempsey is contemplating life beyond Dr Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd.

In a mid-morning interview on the Los Angeles set of Grey’s, a relaxed Dempsey imagines a time when he will have had enough of the production demands of the medical drama and he’ll be far from image-obsessed Hollywood, living with his wife and three kids.

His feelings have been shaped by his wife, Jill, giving birth in February to twin boys, Sullivan and Darby. He also has a five-year-old daughter, Talula.

“It’s (the arrival of twins) daunting and overwhelming. I think it’s going to be really fun,” Dempsey says.

“Eventually, at the end of this run of Grey’s, it will be nice to retreat to the country and raise them in an environment that is much better than Los Angeles.

“I love family. I think it’s the one thing that keeps me sane in all the craziness of what’s going on with this show.”

Dempsey, who works up to 16 hours a day on Grey’s, says it’s nearly impossible to find an escape from the hype generated by the global success of the show.

Though he credits Grey’s with resurrecting his career, he has found it a challenge dealing with intense media scrutiny, particularly about cast unrest on the show.

Patrick Dempsey flashes his trademark McDreamy smile on the New York set of Made of Honor on Thursday. The actor is spending his summer hiatus playing a man who falls for an engaged woman in the romantic comedy.

Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jill Fink stayed close as they posed for photographers at the 6th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. As for the show, Dempsey said, “I would love for Derek and Meredith to have a healthy relationship.” “It got a little too depressing last year, and I think the writers need to lighten up and get back to the first season. That’s what people want to see, and we really need to listen to the fans.”

Patrick Dempsey’s Grey’s Anatomy character, Derek “Dr. McDreamy” Shepherd, makes the all the ladies swoon – but for Dempsey, he’s only concerned about one: Jillian, his wife of eight years.

“I hope I still make her swoon!” the actor, 41, tells Redbook in its June issue. “Sometimes I think, God, would Derek Shepard do this? because I am certainly not a perfect male at this moment. Just trying to provide and communicate and let her know how beautiful and important she is to me – I think those things make her swoon.”

And what about her makes him swoon? “I think thoughtfulness always gets someone,” says Dempsey, who stars in the new romantic comedy Made of Honor.

“Like, ‘Oh, wow, that’s pretty special that you remembered that.’ She’s unbelievably patient and supportive and smart. I listen to her. I listen to her instincts. She makes me a much better person just by association. To have her love me gives me strength and hope and has allowed me to grow into this whole thing.”

He and Jillian, a former cosmetics entrepreneur who now works as the global colorist for Avon, have three kids: daughter Talula, 5, and twin sons Darby and Sullivan, whom they welcomed in February.

The boys, he tells Redbook, are different – quieter than Talula was as an infant. But he says there was one thing he learned with his daughter that’s been helpful with his new sons: “I’ve learned that bonding comes in waves; it’s incremental.

“I think most men are freaked out by that because they’re expecting it to be immediate. With a mother, it’s almost immediate. But it’s okay to take the time bond with your child. It’s going to take 12 months before you start to get into this relationship.”
