Justin Chambers can take plenty of credit for Grey’s Anatomy challenging ER for the title of TV’s hottest medical show.
From the moment the show launched on Seven two years ago, Chambers’ arrogant, smart-talking intern, Alex Karev, became the character viewers either loved or loathed.
But Chambers, the Calvin Klein model-turned-actor, couldn’t be less like his woman-chasing character. He arguably has the most settled private life of all the Grey’s cast, having been married to Keisha for 14 years and is a father of five - Isabella, twins Maya and Kaila, Eva and Jackson.
The other surprising fact about the 37-year-old is that he travelled an unconventional path to a career in showbiz.
Chambers, himself one of five children, had an at times traumatic upbringing in Ohio. As a result of his parents having jobs as sheriff’s deputies, Chambers grew accustomed to tales of lawlessness.
“You know, weird things happen in small towns,” he says of Springfield. “The cities get the brunt of violence, but a lot of funky (twisted) things happen in small towns.
“There was, like, a year of murder after murder after murder. Three friends of mine were murdered. It’s really awful.
Having become second-time parents to twin boys just two months ago Patrick Dempsey and his wife, makeup artist Jillian Fink, could be forgiven for slacking on the exercise front. Instead the Grey’s Anatomy actor and his other half went for an energetic cycle ride in Beverly Hills over the Easter weekend.
With their helmets on, and broad smiles on their faces, the sporty couple - who welcomed sons Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick on February 1 - were clearly getting into their work-out and enjoying a little adult time together.
The couple’s new arrivals are younger brothers for three-year-old Tallulah Fyfe who, according to Patrick, knows the best way to her daddy’s heart. “One day my daughter said: ‘You’re very handsome, Poppy.’ That was the best compliment ever.”
Patrick Dempsey recently teamed up with Breakaway From Cancer, working as the group’s spokesperson. He didn’t just randomly choose a charity to support. Cancer has affected his family in the past, with his mother having been afflicted with ovarian cancer twice.
Patrick, who was living in Los Angeles at the times of his mother’s diagnosis and battle, dealt with many of the same challenges as other long-distance caregivers. From frequent phone calls to discuss treatment options to supporting family members such as his sister who lives near his mother, Patrick was actively involved in caring for his mother. One of his concerns was keeping his mother mentally and physically active during treatment. To help with this, he purchased a farm so his mother could stay active with gardening, renovating a new home and enjoying the outdoors.
T.R. Knight of Grey’s Anatomy recently celebrated his birthday - Happy Birthday T.R.! - and co-star Katherine Heigl (Izzie) surprised her on screen closet beau with a puppy dog. T.R. was thrilled with the new addition, named Ebony. To up the cool factor, Ebony was rescued from an animal shelter in Nebraska which Heigl and her family help to support.
The puppy is described as mixed breed and gangly, and is about six months old. No word on whether or not it is potty trained or not. Signs of an onset romance between Heigl and Knight? Hardly. Remember T.R. Knight was rudely outed by an infamous incident involving costars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey last October. I’m thinking one of them needs a puppy too.
Patrick Dempsey says that Isaiah Washington has changed, or at least he seems to have. The Grey’s Anatomy star has been observing Washington from a safe distance though since the infamously homophobic star grabbed Dempsey by the throat for defending Grey’s Anatomy costar T.R. Knight against a gay slur. The situation, now just a few months short of being a year old, called for stern action from Grey’s Anatomy producers, particularly after Washington made the mistake of repeating the slur at the Golden Globes, albeit in a regretting context.
Dempsey was approached by IMDB reporters recently to check in on how things are going since Washington spent his week in anger rehab. Dempsey’s response was tentatively reassuring at best.
“I haven’t spent enough time around him to honestly know what’s going on with him… (but) you do have a feeling, when you look at him, that something is different, and that he is working on things. You can’t get away from the fact he’s doing a great job on the show; he does beautiful work. He’s very passionate about it. He allows himself to feel deeply and sometimes that’s very difficult to contain and control appropriately.” Dempsey told IMDB.

Katherine Heigl is set to star in a new movie once her television show “Grey’s Anatomy” goes on hiatus in May. The actress will make her big screen appearance in “27 Dresses” as a bridesmaid.
The film follows Heigl, a young woman who has been a bridesmaid a total of 27 times without ever marrying herself. On her 28th bridesmaid experience, she attends her sister’s wedding, who happens to be walking down the aisle with a man she loves.
“27 Dresses,” which is currently in pre-production, will be directed by Anne Helmer and feature a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna of last year’s hit “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Filming locations are scheduled to take place in New York and Rhode Island, beginning in May.
The star is also set to star in Jude Apatow’s “Knocked Up,” a comedy about a guy who finds out he impregnated a girl from the local bar after having a one night stand.
