    Sara Ramírez, born August 31, 1976), is a Mexican actress and singer and the most recent full-time addition to the Grey’s Anatomy cast.

    Ramírez was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, a popular Mexican beach resort on the Pacific coast. After graduating high school in San Diego, Calif., she attended the Juilliard School in New York City. There Sara was trained as an alto singer as well as an actress.

    Prior to her work at Seattle Grace, Ramirez was perhaps best known for her work on stage, capturing the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as The Lady of the Lake in Monty Python’s Spamalot in 2005.

    She debuted on Broadway playing Wahzinak in Paul Simon’s The Capeman (1998) and received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for her role in Fascinating Rhythm (1999). She has also appeared in A Class Act (2001) and performed The Vagina Monologues with Tovah Feldshuh and Suzanne Bertish.

    Sara spent part of her 2004 summer at The Williamstown Theatre Festival and then returned to the role of Hannah on As the World Turns.

    In the 2004 season finale of NYPD Blue titled “Who’s Your Daddy?”, she guest starred as Irma Leone. Sara filmed the Untitled Hotel Project for ABC/Warner Brothers for the 2004 season.

    Her other television credits include Baseball Wives (series regular an HBO pilot), Law & Order SVU (twice), Welcome to New York, Star Patrol (Fox Pilot), Third Watch, Spin City, Talk To Me, As The World Turns (twice).

    On the big screen, she can be glimpsed as Rose, the Zabar’s Cashier, in You’ve Got Mail, and the cop at the carjacking in Spider-Man.
